My first hike with my camera and only lens (all the settings were wrong, but hey, manual!), and two moose step onto the trail about twenty yards ahead. They had been rubbing their heads against the trees, leaving strips of velvet hanging from their antlers and blood (?) glistening in the early light. They were obviously uncomfortable, and so was I as they walked right by me.

Great shot! Moose and other horned animals in the process of shedding their velvet can be testy at best. Awesome opportunity!
