1.83 - "Needs Work"

A part of a series, the portrait is taken via digital camera and printed on special film before being adhered to the mannequin head via the process of hydrographic dipping/printing.

The series dives into the way that we present ourselves and try to conform in society. Even though we are all human, we are not all the same and do not fit a mold. We are unique and individual.

*a technical breakdown of the process*
The original portrait was shot in studio on a Nikon d810. The image was then edited and printed digitally on a special paper. Once the print is completed it is laid on the surface of water (I used a large plastic storage tub) and is sprayed with an activating agent. The film backing on the paper dissolves away leaving the ink laying on the water's surface. The mannequin head is prepped with a base coat of primer and once dry is dipped into the water, through the ink. Once fully submerged, the head is removed and allowed to dry before being coated in a clear coat to protect the image.

I feel conflicted because I think the art itself is quite interesting but the photograph itself to me is not the art? But it conveys the art...

The photograph of this piece was not meant to be judged, rather the art piece itself. Thank you for your input!

Cool, that's kind of what I figured. VERY interesting art piece honestly, and I love that you took the time to describe the process and propose too. Thank you so much for sharing this! Is there somewhere we could see more like this or is it a one-off?
