This portrait is of the love of my life and the mother of my 3-year-old child. It was made in the early days of our relationship around 11 years ago. The raw file was forgotten after being dumped on a hard drive and found 8 years later at which point I edited and developed it.
The gear used was a Canon 5D mkII body with a 50mm f/1.4 lens (ISO: 100, F/7.1, 1/100th). A collapsible background on the black side was positioned close behind the subject in the tiny living room of our apartment at the time.
The flash was, again, positioned close to the subject, off to her right side due to the limited space. I have a hard time recalling the exact flash unit and modifier used. Still, it is probable that it was a Canon 580 EXII with a collapsible softbox since I don't think I would've tried deploying anything bigger in that space. The subject was posed turned towards the light source and looking back straight at the camera with the aim of short-lighting her face.
The raw file was edited using Lightroom (Light adjustments and B&W conversion) and Photoshop (Frequency separation skin retouches and light liquify).
This is my favourite portrait I've made. I hope you enjoy it.
