I'd wanted to shoot with this model, Alina Lee, for a long time, so when I got the opportunity I decided to do something special. We drove out into the California desert, to a dry lake bed, and built a giant light box, 12' wide, 12' deep, 8' high, with a full silk on top, black solids on the sides and ground, and a black net at the back. This gave me soft, contrasty natural light. I wanted to keep the styling very simple and raw, so I just gave her a blanket to wrap around herself, and let her hair blow in the wind.
