This castle is called Kasteel van Horst. It is close to my home town, and I remember visiting it as a kid, before it started to fall in disrepair. In 2020 when we were all stuck at home I remember the castle and wanted to capture it in all it's glory before it might go down in history. So I drove there on a spring morning hoping to catch a good sunrise, it's safe to say, I was not disappointed.
I set up my camera at the edge of the lake, using the surrounding foliage to create a frame around the castle. Then I waited for the sun to peak from behind the castle and light up the fog on the lake and my foliage frame. I shot a brackets like a maniac to not miss the right moment. I used the lightest shot the recover the textures on the castle and the darkest one to temper the heat of the sun.
I visited this place again in 2023 and I'm happy to say they are currently renovating the castle, unfortunately I will have to wait some time to shoot such a glorious shot again as it is currently surrounded by scaffolding.
