2.08 - "Needs Work"

Shot this just after dawn in Venice back in the spring of 2022. After the pandemic, Venice was still really quiet and empty at this point and even more so in the early morning.

The subject is the "Bridge of Sighs", a symbol of both romance and tragedy.

It was built in the early 17th century, and named for the supposed sighs of the prisoners who crossed it on their way to the dungeons.

I wanted to frame the bridge through the stone arches of the bridge I was standing on to provide a different perspective of this architectural marvel.

I feel as if the boat also complements the scene by guiding the eye towards the bridge. Also, these types of "work" boats are commonly seen in Venice, especially in the early morning when deliveries are being made.

Usually Gondolas are nowhere to be seen at this time, so this is more representative of the "the real Venice" at dawn! :)

Shot on my Nikon D3200
