Paramount World Center: Miami, FL
Probably the most aggravating shot I've ever taken in my career. Was so close to being a textbook example of the Sunk Cost Fallacy as it took me almost a month of trying to get the sun hitting the building at just the right time and angle to get it to reflect on the glass. I had seen it perfectly from my friend's balcony one day as we were drinking some beers and knew immediately the frame and light I wanted.
There is a bridge overpass under construction in the foreground, so I had to use a 20-foot Super Tripod to get my camera over the fence. Which means setting it up every time. Unfortunately, Miami's weather was just not cooperating and every time I'd go out to try, rain and clouds would ruin the light and I'd come home empty-handed. My constant failures were equal parts amusing and aggravating and provided plenty of comical fodder for my homies to mock me with. After a while, I kept trying simply because I'd never forgive myself if the one day I didn't was the day that the conditions would be perfect. I was Sisyphus searching for meaning in a repetitive task with no outcome.
I guess the gods grew tired of torturing me as one fateful day I finally got the sunlight I needed at just the right time (just as it was setting on the horizon) and the reflections I had been praying for.
