Our Brittany Spaniel, may she rest in peace. She loved to run, we would take her on long walks, find a big field and let her loose. She would go crazy chasing birds and sometimes drive me crazy too chasing her. She belonged to a friend who had a bunch of hunting dogs but she was unfit for that because she was afraid of loud noises, so we took her in.
I shot this on my Nikon D3300, with the cheap Yongnuo 50mm lens, ISO 100, f/2.5, I believe I had two speedlites setup. I was taking Christmas pictures of the family and of course she was a member too.
As for editing, some cropping and minor tweaks of exposure, contrast, levels...

This is a great portrait, but the background is way too busy for your subject. RIP to your dog.
Not sure I agree with you, Richard. The solid black face clearly jumps out from the picture, and the swirls and shapes in the background complement the swirls of the dog's hair and white ball at the end of the Santa hat. I like it this way.
