Our Brittany Spaniel, may she rest in peace. She loved to run, we would take her on long walks, find a big field and let her loose. She would go crazy chasing birds and sometimes drive me crazy too chasing her. She belonged to a friend who had a bunch of hunting dogs but she was unfit for that because she was afraid of loud noises, so we took her in.
I shot this on my Nikon D3300, with the cheap Yongnuo 50mm lens, ISO 100, f/2.5, I believe I had two speedlites setup. I was taking Christmas pictures of the family and of course she was a member too.
As for editing, some cropping and minor tweaks of exposure, contrast, levels...

This is a great portrait, but the background is way too busy for your subject. RIP to your dog.

Not sure I agree with you, Richard. The solid black face clearly jumps out from the picture, and the swirls and shapes in the background complement the swirls of the dog's hair and white ball at the end of the Santa hat. I like it this way.

I looked at it again, I understand where you're coming from. Let me rephrase it, for me the background is distracting because its busy. My eye is still drawn to the dog, but the red/white flower in the top right is fighting for my attention too. Its a solid photo, I'm just not a fan of the background.

Hi Richard, I perfectly understand. I guess I felt like steering away from the norm and just giving it a try. I like it but I'm obviously biased, it's hard for me to be objective about my own work, and for others too for that matter. Sometimes I'll just like a picture because it makes me feel a certain way and it could be technically a disaster.
But thanks for the comments, both of you.
