Whispers in the Leaves
This image has always given me an Alice in Wonderland vibe.
This is what it looks like underneath a grove of Hosta plants.
To take this image I used my Laowa 15mm wide angle macro lens. This lens is a lot of fun to play around with as its minimal focal distance is 1.4"! Anyways, I was exploring around Duke Gardens, part of Duke University, experimenting with this lens. I came across a little grove of Hosta plants and thought they looked pretty cool. I stuck my camera inches from the ground underneath the grove of hostas and tilted it slightly up. Doing this was rather difficult as the lens is a fully manual lens. I also couldn't really see my camera screen. Because of this I didn't quite nail the focus the way I would have liked. But when you're that close to something the focal depth is rather shallow no matter what your f/stop is.
I really like the illusion that the plants are towering above you. Almost like you've been shrunken down. To edit this I converted it to black and white in photoshop. Then using Lumenzia I did a lot of very selective dodging and burning. And that's basically it.
Thanks for looking.
