Some time ago, I started experimenting with macro videography. The original idea was to blend these abstract visuals into my short films—to give certain scenes a surreal, otherworldly dimension. But I quickly fell deep down the macro rabbit hole.

I first picked up the Sony 90mm 1x, but within a week, I swapped it for the Laowa 90mm 2x. That’s when the real fun began. I started experimenting with all kinds of inks, liquids, solvents—basically anything I could find that might react in interesting ways under the lens.

All these images were shot on the Sony A7IV with the Laowa 90mm 2x macro. I used a single LED light to illuminate a tray filled with liquids, shooting in an area just 2–5 cm wide. The editing was done in DaVinci Resolve and Photoshop.

Between designing pixel-perfect layouts in my day job and trying to keep up with the ever-evolving world of generative AI, this process feels incredibly refreshing and organic.
