Rose with a History
The Peace Rose was developed by a French horticulturist just before the outbreak of World War II. The new rose was introduced into the U.S. shortly after that global conflict ended and was the flower given to the delegates at the inaugural United Nations meeting with a note expressing hope for everlasting peace. As it turned out, international peace didn't happen but the rose did go on to become a popular variety with gardeners across the country.
