I didn't think we'd actually get to the see Aurora in St. George tonight, so I wasn't prepared when someone from the photo club said it was visible. I ran outside in my PJ's with my camera to take a test shot and verified the sky was pink, but I had to get away from the light dome of St. George.
I left the house, still in my PJ's, and only took my camera and a tripod. I only live a few miles away from the Arizona Strip, so I drove about 4 miles down the dusty road until I was far enough away from the light pollution.
I found that my initial astrophotography go-to settings were a bit too bright, so I cranked down the ISO to 250. Due to lack of planning, I didn't really have a good foreground. Alas, my trusty steed Blanca was with me so I figured why not feature her in the photo. We've been on all kinds of adventures since February so it seemed fitting. Since I forgot my phone at home, I opened and closed the car door and used the dome lights to illuminate the interior, which also spilled a bit on the ground.
Shot with Sony A1, with Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 at 24mm. f/2.8, 13 seconds, ISO 250. Edited in LrC, but mainly to bring the car out of the shadows. Zero vibrance added and -3 on the saturation.
