The photo was taken in Glenorchy, New Zealand. Renowned for its grand scenes I was setting up to take a photo of the lake and mountains when I noticed some colour in the sand. It was sort of like the colour that comes from an oil slick. (I later found out that it’s caused by rotting tree branches releasing these natural oils into the water). So i looked around and found this leaf with this colour surrounding it. The challenge was getting the right angle that created the colour and kept the composition I wanted, plus I didn’t have a macro lens so I was shooting using a zoom lens in low light. It took a lot of failed blurry images to get this one.
The settings were iso 1600, at 83mm, 1/100 second at f8. Not a lot of post processing was required as the colour was already there, just added contrast, darkened the shadows to give it some pop.
