The creation of this photograph began with selecting and preparing a betta fish in a glass bowl, using another fish as a visual trigger to encourage full fin flaring. A black paper backdrop was placed behind the bowl, and a flash was positioned above to freeze the fish’s motion with crisp detail. Patience was essential—waiting for the perfect moment when the betta fully expanded its fins before pressing the shutter. More than 100 shots were taken to capture just a few ideal frames for selection. During post-processing, the fish was carefully cut out, and the background was deepened to a pure black to enhance contrast and highlight the fish’s vivid form. The image was captured with a Fuji X-T3 and an 80 mm macro lens, focusing precisely on the eye while tracking the fish’s subtle movements to achieve a sharp, dynamic final result.
