"Still life with paint brushes" was created in January 2026 as I was watching a colleague pack up his art classroom. I was looking around his room trying to find interesting things to photograph when my eyes fell on this cup full of paint brushes sitting on his desk. To make it more interesting, I decided to use intentional camera movement to give it a sense of motion. I've been playing with ICM since I discovered Eva Polak's work a few years ago. The use of movement to capture this image gives it a painterly feel as if Rembrandt decided to try Impressionism. The image was taken with a Nikon d750 fitted with a Tamron 70-300 mm lens at 165 mm. My shutter speed was .25 sec. and my aperture 4.5. I also used a variable ND filter, but can't remember the setting. To create the motion, I used a gentle downward swipe because I wanted the paint brushes and cup to be recognizable. This Image also won a monthly ICM challenge in the 365 Project I belong to.
