A summer night on the New River.

I left my camera out basically all night hoping the clouds would clear long enough to give me some decent star trails, and hoping to capture as many fireflies as I could.

I had my intervalometer set to take 500 20 second exposures at f/2.8 iso 3200. I ended up only using about 200 for the star trails and all 500 for the fire flies. These were both blended using the lighten blend mode in photoshop. Once I had my blend of flies and trails I blended both separately into a single exposure to help better balance everything. This way I was able to mitigate some of the craziness that happens with the lighten blend mode. I ended up settling for this square crop. Cropping out a lot of the sky and trying to focus on the tree with the fire flies all around it.

This photo didn't come out quite how I envisioned but I think it's still pretty cool anyway. Clouds foiled a lot of my photography plans on this trip.
