Chinese company DEO-Tech has apparently developed a lens adapter that allows Leica M lenses to autofocus when attached to a Sony E-mount. They did this by first mounting a Lecia lens into a Contax G Biogon 28mm f/2, and when they use that with their Contax G - NEX AF adapter it becomes a lens usable on a Sony NEX. This is a lot better than just your run of the mill adapter and opens up Sony users to the excellent library of Leica M lenses that are famed for high quality.
“We put a Leica M 35mm f/2 into a Contax G Biogon 28mm f/2.8. When use with our Contax G – NEX AF adapter, it will come a NEX-AF lens! And the result is quite good! We will make a video for it very soon. We try so many different Leica rangefinder lens and the result, the best match is 35mm and 50mm f/2 or small aperture lens with Biogon 28mm lens body.”
Supposedly, the company is planning to modify and sell 35mm and 50mm Summicron lenses in the future. Interesting, especially since if this works as well as they say, auto focusing with Leica glass will be possible... just not on a Leica.
