If you’re from Southeast Asia or have been meaning to visit Bangkok, March might be a good time to see all the latest innovations from your favorite camera, accessory, and software brands.
Trade shows like NAB, IBC, CES, Computex, and (the indefinitely shuttered) Photokina are just some of the yearly anticipated events in the photography, film, and broadcast industries all over the world. This is where both the big and up-and-coming brands are present at one event to showcase their latest innovations to distributors, retailers, media, and individual consumers who want to know more about the newest equipment and accessories coming to the market.
The IMI (Image, Motion, and Innovation) Show
This new trade show is happening from March 6 to 9, 2025, at the BITEC Exhibition and Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand. The IMI show is organized and put together by 3PD Solutions, the Thailand Photo Business Association, DCPro, STM, and COB Media. This show aims to bring a world-class trade exhibition of all the relevant photography, videography, and broadcast manufacturers to Thailand and the Southeast Asian region. According to DCPro Marketing Director Alvin Wong, the IMI show aims to bring all of the brands and their latest innovations within closer reach of people and businesses in Southeast Asia.
Trade shows offer different benefits for various individuals and businesses. Most of the equipment brands we use come from one country and are made available to individual countries or regions by distributors and retailers. Trade shows bridge the gap between them by bringing together many of the most promising brands, allowing distributors and retailers to meet and try out the latest products they might want to consider bringing to their countries. As of October 2024, most major camera brands—namely, Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Fujifilm—along with many lighting, support, and accessory brands, will be participating, and many more are expected to join by March.
On the other hand, trade shows are great opportunities for individual consumers to try out and learn more about new equipment and creative solutions that might help them, whether as practicing professionals or enthusiasts. This can also be an opportunity for individuals to meet the manufacturers of their favorite equipment and accessories to exchange ideas on how their products can improve. Additionally, many trade shows and exhibitions, like the IMI show, also feature respected professionals and practitioners whom individual creatives and enthusiasts can meet and learn from through workshops and demonstrations.
Trade shows and expos in the photography, filmmaking, and broadcast industries play a key role in bringing together the manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and consumers they aim to serve. Aside from showcasing and discussing the latest innovations that the world is yet to see, events like these make it easier for each group to make connections, collaborate, and exchange ideas for the benefit of the creative industry.
