Who It’s For:
The 200mm f/1.8L IS USM is for sports and portrait photographers who absolutely need to be shooting in low light conditions such as an indoor volleyball court. This is a very specialized lens for very specialized use, but it’s incredible so if you think you need it and you can shell out for it, this is an incredible piece of glass. What We Like:
Sharp: This lens is tack sharp at all apertures, including the crazy f/2.
IS: This lens is rated by Canon at 4 stops, which should allow you to shoot still objects at 4 stops slower hand held.
Aperture: This lens is the fastest 200mm lens you can buy today.
AF: Autofocus is very fast and the Ultrasonic Motor in the lens makes it very quiet.
Weather Sealed: This lens is completely weather sealed which means you probably won’t have to run for cover in a light rain.
Build Quality: This lens is one of Canon’s professional L lenses, so it’s build like a tank for hardcore professional use.
What We Don't:
Size: It takes a ton of glass to make a 200mm lens at f/1.8, so expect a workout.
No Filters: The front element is too big for filters so you’ll have to use the drop in filters in the back.
