A high-quality 85mm wide-aperture lens is the holy grail for a wide variety of photographers, offering the ability to create sharp portraits with backgrounds blown to smithereens. However, such a lens is rarely cheap, but Sigma's offerings frequently undercut first-party brands, including Sony. Can their new 85mm f/1.4 Art keep up with Sony's own 85mm f/1.4 G Master? This great video review compares the two to find out.
Coming to you from Manny Ortiz, this excellent video comparison compares the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM and the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lenses. No doubt, you will get great performance out of both lenses (and Sigma still works with Sony Eye AF), but the Sigma offering is about a third cheaper than Sony's own, plus it is significantly more compact and about a half of a pound lighter thanks to its redesign from the older version, and that sort of savings can absolutely make a noticeable difference over the course of a long day using such a lens. Certainly, both lenses are quite spectacular, and either one should meet the needs of the majority of photographers. Check out the video above for Ortiz' full thoughts on each lens.
When Sigma lenses go on a diet I will start to pay attention. Big and heavy does not appeal to me. I make an exception for my Canon 400 2.8
Pay attention then, they did go on a diet with this lens.

And, since we know how well you pay attention, they are also lighter. smh :)
The Sigma has huge distortions and the image is not rectangular. The image is then manipulated by software to become straight again. What is the point of having such a lens that is compromised in the beginning.
Doesn't matter when the adjusted image still out resolves most other lenses.
