Creative Uses in Video for the Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens

The interesting looking and very niche probe lens has started to show up more in videos as owners find creative ways to use its unique features. Last year Fstoppers' Usman Dawood did a great review of the Laowa 24mm Probe lens and then it kind of just faded into the gear archives, just another lens on the store shelf. Recently though a couple of videos have gone viral using this lens for exactly what it was intended for probing. However, they managed to find functional yet creative ways to get video shots that otherwise would be difficult.

This time the very talented Marques Brownlee takes a stab at making good use of the Probe lens and breaks down a bunch of examples of how other videographers are using it. Brownlee does a great job in this video of showing how when used right there is a lot of potential for creativity especially in product shot video.

I personally would love to get a hold of this lens and play around with it in some nature and wildlife video work. I recently did some work with insects and reptiles and would have loved to have a lens like this to shoot some interesting video.

Is the Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens something you think we might just start seeing more of?

I have it, and love what it can do. Shortly after getting it though, we left on a 6-country tour, so I haven't had a chance to back and really flex its muscles though. We have a slider coming next week, which I think will extend what I can do with this lens quite a lot.

I saw this video a week ago and def would love to have one. So many cool things you can do with it.

Would love to try this out!

I'd show you what I shot on the probe lens but I don't want to get banned.
