The Good and Bad of Leica Cameras and Lenses

Perhaps no camera brand generates stronger opinions than Leica, with some photographers absolutely swearing by the equipment and experience and others seeing it as overpriced niche gear. Just like any other brand, there are good and bad aspects of using Leica cameras and lenses. This interesting video essay examines the company's lines as they stand in 2022, what they are doing right, and what could be improved.

Coming to you from DPReview TV, this great video discusses the pros and cons of Leica equipment. No doubt, Leica generates a lot of chatter. I have always wanted a used Monochrom, as I find the idea of shooting only in black and white and reading scenes entirely in terms of their tonality fascinating, but the cost has always been a bit prohibitive for me. Nonetheless, I picked up an older, more affordable Leica lens that I adapt to my Canon mirrorless body, and I do believe there is something to be said for how their lenses render images. On the other hand, if that look to your images and if the overall experience is worth the premium price tag is a different question and one that really differs from person to person. Check out the video above for the full rundown.

Sony should buy Leica, wow then what?

It would make a lot of sense. Sony has the capital, critical mass and marketability to make it happen and succeed.
