Medium format lenses are normally quite expensive and of a narrow maximum aperture. So, the prospect of a 135mm f/2.5 lens for just $299 sounds almost too good to be true. That is what the new Mitakon Zhongyi Creator 135mm f/2.5 offers.
The new Mitakon Zhongyi Creator 135mm f/2.5 lens has been available for full frame mounts for a bit, but now, the company is upping the ante by introducing a version for Fujifilm's medium format GF mount without increasing the price ($299), making it quite an intriguing option for genres like portrait work. The new version comes with a range of features, including:
- Rounded nine-blade diaphragm for particularly smooth bokeh
- 35mm-equivalent focal length of 106mm
- Two extra-low dispersion elements and two ultra-high refraction index elements for sharper images and fewer chromatic aberrations
- Manual focus design
- Depth of field and distance scales
- Retractable hood for reduced ghosting, fewer flares, and deeper contrast

Is it actually a medium format lens or just a full frame lens with a mount for a medium format camera? A lot of full frame lenses have a big enough image circle to mostly cover the small medium format sensor size Fuji uses but with varying degrees of vignetting. So has this lens been redesigned to have a larger image circle?
I'f I was a betting man I bet on it being a full frame design with a GF mount.
Yes, same. Hopefully with only minimal vignetting.
Yeah I hope so too. It would be pretty slick if this covered the frame of a GFX camera. Would be nice to have more third party options that had full coverage on the GFX system. I would shoot with this lens all the time if it covered well. I'm actually in the market for a replacement for around this focal length right now. I hope it pans out.
