Nikon 300mm f/2.8 AF-S IF-ED VR

Nikon 300mm f/2.8 AF-S IF-ED VR

Who It’s For:

This lens is Nikon’s top of the line professional telephoto lens for sports, nature and headshot photographers. Pair it with the Nikon D4 and you’ve got yourself a mean combo. This has been replaced by the updated Nikon 300mm f/2.8 AF-S IF-ED VR II, but they only added a single switch and kept the optics the same.

What We Like:

Build Quality: This lens is very well made and is intended for professionals so no complaints here.

Sharp: Nikon always puts the most work into it’s big telephotos so optically, this is going to be one of the best that Nikon makes.

VR: Nikon claims 4 stops of improvement.

ED Glass: Nikon’s extra low dispersion glass is brilliant at getting rid of color fringing.

Autofocus: The autofocus on this lens is very fast and very quiet.

Price: This lens is optically identical to the newer version and it’s much cheaper, so if you can find one, you could get a great lens for much cheaper than the current model.

What We Don’t:

Lack of Filters: The front element is massive so no filters, only Nikon’s drop in filters.
