Tamron Teases Sony Shooters With Two Intriguing Lenses

Sony shooters will soon be blessed with two new zoom lenses courtesy of Tamron: the unusual 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD and an updated version of the incredibly popular 28-75mm f/2.8. Both are due to go on sale in the next four months.

Tamron made the announcement via its blog. The 35-150mm f/2-2.8 would be an unusual addition to the wide range of lenses available on the E mount. Billed as a “fast-aperture travel zoom,” this lens would be the first Sony zoom lens to have a maximum aperture of f/2. This will be a very versatile lens, especially when you also consider that its minimum focusing distance at 35mm is just 13“ (33 cm).

Details of the size and weight are yet to be announced, but from the image released so far, it seems to be surprisingly compact and would pair well with the recently released 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VXD. A front filter thread of 82mm would be in keeping with Tamron’s tendency towards consistency across lenses that complement one another.

In addition, Tamron is also set to release an updated version of its highly popular 28-75mm f/2.8. The G2 will incorporate a new optical construction and trim the minimum focusing distance by almost half an inch (1 cm). It also offers “enhanced texture and greater user-friendliness.”

That 35-150 has piqued my interest.

35-150 f 2.8 is good. I have wanted a 35-105 f 2.8 but I can live with this one. Sound great!

I'm usually staunchly against variable aperture zooms but the 35-150 looks interesting.

Yes but 2.8 in the long end. I just think f2 in the shorter end is a bonus :)

I wish they also made for Nikon Z, otherwise that 35-150 would "force" me to buy a Sony. Only if this does not exceed 1Kg then take my money Tamron! . This is as innovative as the Sigma 18-35 was at the time but much more useful to my taste. Congratulations to the Tamron Engineers !!!

I think there is a button on the left side of 28-75, if you look really close.
