Cosina, more commonly known for manufacturing Voigtländer lenses, is teasing the launch of four new lenses, including two Fujifilm X mount options, a Canon RF mount mirrorless lens, and even a DSLR optic. The RF mount option will even include electric contacts, while one of the X mount lenses will be "super-fast."
Voigtländer lenses are well known for compact and rugged all-metal designs, with sharp optics and manual focus operation that endear them to a lot of photographers. In fact, when I switched from Sony E mount back to Canon, by far, the lens I missed the most was my Voigtlander Heliar-Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical, which, besides offering an extreme (and thus, very fun and creative) focal length, was beautifully designed and a joy to work with. The company specifying electric contacts on their upcoming RF mount lens means it will communicate EXIF data, but due to Canon's prohibitions and the company's general philosophy, it is exceedingly likely it will be a manual focus design.
Along with the Canon lens, Cosina has promised a smaller Fujifilm X mount lens and a "super-fast" X mount lens, plus an SLR lens. It is not clear what mount the SLR lens will be for. We won't have to wait long, though, as all four lenses will be announced at the CP+ show later this week.
Finally. I'm using Voigtländer M lenses on my R6 with adapters, the Nokton 75mm f1.5 and the Nokton 50mm f1.0, and maybe they will change the design a bit to avoid those image border problems of wide angle lenses (I'm not sure if all of them have problems, but adapting M lenses of the wide side normally leads to colour and softness on image borders).
‘…but due to Canon's prohibitions and the company's general philosophy, it is exceedingly likely it will be a manual focus design.
There’s no ‘exceedingly likely’ about it. Voigtlander lenses are all manual focus so that is pretty much guaranteed.
Apparently the lenses are going to be:
NOKTON 50mm F1 Aspherical RF-mount
NOKTON 35mm F0.9 Aspherical X-mount
NOKTON 55mm F1.2 SLIIs
ULTRON 27mm F2 X-mount Black
ULTRON 27mm F2 X-mount Silver
Meh. I don't care for another 50mm, I want this 10mm for the RF mount.
Yes, would be cool (the 15mm would also do, as it's rather small). The 50mm Nokton f1 does some magic, but after all it's just another lens at this focal length.
