How to Clean a Dirty Camera, or Maybe Not So Much?

So your camera is dirty from the constant trips out into the field, it's your workhorse after all and its seen better days, but how do you go about getting it squeaky clean and fresh though? Probably not like this.

Dirty camera? No problem, Benjamin Jaworskyj's 2018 April Fool's Day video has some good humored tips and tricks on how to get your precious DSLR back to shipshape condition like a pro. This is for the times when silly little microfiber cloths just can't get the job done, when a genuine heavy duty cleaning is in order.

We've all been there before, maybe it was raining, muddy, or snowing. Maybe it's just been a long time since the last good clean and we've got an important project coming up soon. We need our tech to be on point and ready to shoot some clean sharp shots. Other YouTube videos might advise using a puffer or something quaint like that. Why bother with all the fuss of cleaning it yourself when an everyday household appliance is sitting there ready to go to work for us? Watch and learn folks, watch and learn.

OK, OK, all fun and jokes aside, I'll go ahead and leave you with the PSA. This was very much an April Fool's joke and just in case there is one person out there who might be tempted to take something like this literally, don't. Do not re-enact what you see in the video. Have a laugh, take it for what it is: some lighthearted fun.

An oldie but a goodie. Here are a couple of others I've seen:

Matt Granger https://youtu.be/x3BZXJLEZmQ

Varina Patel https://youtu.be/MCIVPGgAeqM

I'd be interested to see other versions, too!

I hope his camera and lens was weather-sealed.

On a serious note... BEWARE that when you send your camera in to be cleaned / serviced the service facility may reset EVERYTHING to the manufacturer's defaults (Canon does). Today's DSLR menus are enormous and I was caught off guard that my custom settings were changed.

"Don't put knives in with your camera or it may get damaged' was my favorite part. I like this guys humor even though i couldn't help but cringe during the entire video seeing that poor camera go through this.
