Landscape photography can be a challenging and frustrating endeavor, more often than not consisting of long durations of scouring for compositions amid less than ideal conditions, followed by brief periods of frenetic activity trying to capture fleeting moments before the elements change. Landscape photographer Nigel Danson's latest video shows him spending time shooting in the Lake District, chasing miniscule windows of light without success.
Danson's "mistake" is trying to do too many things instead of maintaining a tighter focus on one or two key compositions for landscape photography. As he explains it, he overextended himself, flying his drone, creating video, and taking photographs. While his primary goal was to photograph the beautiful scenery, he found himself consistently not in position when the light was right due to his other creative activities. This is a common quandary that many creatives find themselves in these days. In fact, I had this same exact issue on my last photography trip. Between shooting time-lapses, video, flying my drone, and capturing behind the scenes footage and photography, I felt completely overwhelmed and lost focus on what my main objective was, landscape photography.
