How to Create Photo Collages For Instagram Stories

People often confuse Lightroom for being a sort of “Photoshop Light,” but that couldn't be further from reality. Optimization issues aside, it's an a relatively flexible program that can do a bit more than just edit raw images.

In previous posts on Fstoppers I've made it pretty clear about my own issues with Instagram. Suffice to say that I have a love-hate relationship with the app. On the one hand, some people seem to think that it's cool to use images that don't belong to them to sell their products, while using it for an extended amount of time usually ends with me in the fetal position because I can't seem to get a lot of followers or a sufficient amount of likes; while on the other hand, it's a free-to-use platform that can be used as a portfolio, website link, storefront, and marketing tool. It really is a no-brainer if I could just leave my ego at the door.

In this video by Adorama TV, photographer and educator Mark Wallace shows us how to use Lightroom's Print module to create a handy template for Instagram's Stories function. Stories is a powerful tool for getting a message to your followers or to more people through paid advertising. If you've got more than 10,000 followers or your account is verified, you'll have the option to add a "Swipe Up" feature as a call to action which links to whatever product you're selling or event you want to promote. With Wallace's little trick you can customize your post easily, making your Stories look more professional and to the point. As he mentions in the video, Lightroom has had the ability to print to a JPEG file directly from the Print module — I'm embarrassed to say that this was a bit of a revelation to me.

Do you use any of Lightroom's modules in way that isn't so obvious?

I use Adobe Spark. Its free, quick, easy, and produces great results. Example: https://bit.ly/2H7cYcF

Hey John. I've used Adobe Spark too. I did have one small issue with it; Its Linkedin Banner template was completely the wrong size. Otherwise it's great. Also, Canva is another option. You need to pay to get access to everything, but you can still do a quite a bit with the free version.

Do you know other applications for this task?
