Cordouan

The Cordouan lighthouse is located in the Gironde department (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), seven kilometers offshore on the Cordouan plateau, at the boundary between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde, the shared estuary of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. It ensures safe passage through the two channels leading to the estuary: the large western channel, marked at night, which runs along the north bank from the Coubre sandbank, and the southern channel, which is narrower and not marked at night.
