Dotted Smartweed

200mm · f/5.6 · 1/200 sec · ISO 500

Each of us here tends to value the "big landscapes" with pointed snow capped mountains and color laden sunsets. All of it worthy of a Tchaikovsky Overture. Lately, I've been drawn to the subtle things that are often missed. This dotted smartweed grows in the swamp behind my home. It's peaking right now and offers subtle beauty as a contrast to bigger phenomena.

Love this, Ed! So simple. There's a lovely softness in the image - firstly the curve in the lines of flowers & buds on the branches caught my eye, then the soft curves in the background, and finally looking at the buds & flowers, almost feeling their delicacy. Well done!

BTW totally agree about the small & subtle things being often excellent subjects - less prone to cliché too.

Chris, you made my day. Thanks so much for taking the time to make such a thoughtful critique…, it means a lot.
