There was no past, no future, only this eternal, highly-stylized present. Time had not passed here; it had simply settled, becoming dense and heavy. The shadows held the weight of all the hours that refused to move on, clinging sharply to the stone. You could feel the pressure of the unmoving sun, creating a moment so beautiful and so perfectly still that you feared blinking, lest the entire delicate structure shatter.
