Chicharrera

A young Canary Islander basks in the glow of a warm winter sun. The average year round temperature on the coast in Tenerife is 24 degrees Celsius. I came across her while walking the rocky coast of the island about 5 miles outside of the capital, Santa Cruz. Noticing her eyes were closed, I carefully approached her, my camera at the ready and banged off this shot using a large aperture. The click of the shutter caused her to open her eyes and see me with the camera still raised to my eye, smiled and we began a conversation. As it turned out she was a local model and we had some mutual friends in common. This led to several future encounters during which I photographed her extensively.
