In the heart of the medieval town of Santillana del Mar (Cantabria) stands the majestic Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana. Built in the 12th century over an ancient monastery housing the relics of martyr Juliana, this Romanesque gem was declared a National Monument in 1889.
Over the centuries, the church has incorporated Gothic and Baroque elements, such as ribbed vaults and a Hispano-Flemish main altarpiece from the 15th century. Its cloister, featuring 42 richly decorated capitals, is among the most outstanding examples of Romanesque art in Spain.
