Another fascinating feature in Death Valley NP is Ubehebe Crater. Typically, volcanic events involve lava flows, but this one was lava > water > steam > boom! So, unlike many geologic features in the West than form over eons, this one was sudden and over. Standing on the rim, it does resemble a big earthen basket; thus the name the Shoshone gave it.
