We had no idea that this wood pigeon nest was in our hedge. Our gardener found it last week when she was cutting it, and immediately swapped to silent handheld shears.
Unfortunately, the nest is still completely exposed, but the parents take 12-hour shifts sitting on it, and they don't move. They keep their eyes open. They give one of my dogs, Sausage, a filthy look when she barks at them, which she's now given up doing because she realizes the pigeon is no threat.
I've learned quite a lot about their behavior. They produce milk, believe it or not, through a pouch in their throat, and they give this milk to the chicks when they hatch. They don't give them worms and stuff, but they give them this milk until they're old enough to go on to solid food, I guess.
I took the photograph with the Hasselblad X2D II and a 135mm lens with the 1x7 teleconverter. I then edited it in DXO PhotoLab 9.10.
