Porta da Olivença

Portas de Olivença, the southern gate of Elvas' city walls built in the 17th century, is a historically significant site facing south towards Olivença. Constructed during Portugal's restoration of independence from Spain, it played a crucial role in repelling potential Spanish invasions. The gates consist of an outer gate that could be closed with iron chains and an inner gate separated by a wide moat.
