I was looking for a mackerel sky above a row of trees on the horizon, but I was heading home on a Sunday after a couple of weeks in the Western District, it was the middle of the day, and the cumulus clouds defied my efforts.
Somehow, later I thought of a monochrome panorama by cropping off the clouds, and made one of my most popular images.
Thanks, Shawn. Yeah, mountain scenery is appealing, but there's something about the plains, and big skies. Reminds me of my tiny place in the big scheme of things.
Just strolling by... managed to not see the rest of your portfolio yet. Bad Cathleen. I'm taken by the end of the tree line... and the hint of a wide open space by that thin whitish line on the left. What lies beyond? The crop works well. :)
You seem to see this image the way i do, Cathleen. I guess the leading line, and then the sheep, lead the eye over the mound to the open space beyond, even though it's a tiny sliver at frame edge.
Incidentally, this was taken with a legendary Nikon macro, ultra sharp. It's printed about 43" long, framed and hung at eye level at work, and I never tire of peering into the detail.
Great Picture! Reminds of the huge skies around the area I grew up in. Now all I see are pine trees when I look to the horizon.
