The Cathedral of Palma in Majorca has 3 main facades. The one most visible in the photo is the south facade - the Fachada del Mirador. This is the most imposing side of La Seu - it was this wall of the cathedral that was viewed by travellers arriving mainly by sea, and it was this wall that was meant to inspire awe and intimidation. And yes - once upon a time Mallorca could only be visited by boat - although in Rayner's time we may find this hard to imagine ;)
