YouTube CEO Says Platform Will Remove Coronavirus Content That Goes Against WHO Guidelines

In a recent interview with CNN, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki said the platform will begin banning content that promotes any unproven or fake treatments for coronavirus. In addition, the platform will seek to block any content that "goes against" WHO guidelines on the pandemic.

YouTube has already banned videos that attempt to claim connections between 5G technology and coronavirus, with the latest move introducing more restrictions. In a recent interview with CNN, CEO Susan Wojcicki said the platform would remove "problematic" content related to the pandemic and "anything that is medically unsubstantiated" in an attempt to battle misinformation that places people at serious risk. For example, content that peddles unsubstantiated herbal cures for coronavirus will be removed. It is not clear how YouTube will police its massive library of content that grows substantially every day or where exactly it will draw the line given that health authorities are not in full agreement about some aspects of the pandemic, though the move seems designed more to combat extreme misinformation. Earlier this year, the company had announced plans to demonetize any videos discussing coronavirus, but it quickly went back on the decision after heavy resistance from the platform's creators.

I am aware of the WHO's issues. I am also aware the WHO does a great deal of good work. I am also aware there is NO alternative to the WHO - are you proposing the US should do the work the WHO currently does? Or would you prefer China continue to build its credibility, and by extension degrade the US' (already catestrophically poor) prestige, by resort to the same?

The mistake you make is your belief you have earned freedom of expression. You are too obtuse and ignorant to comprehend you, and those like you, have been instrumentalised by the wealthy elite; and by extension have become the instruments of the thing you naively claim to oppose. Imagine my surprise to find Plato's Repiblic can be applied to any democracy.

Try again. Try harder.

*crickets*

Yeah, you really are quite the debater.

YouTube is garbage. They removed a video showing an animation of conceptual application of using UV rays to possibly treat COVID-19. Keep in mind that the research that is being referenced is legitimate research sponsored in part by Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

They claimed that the video violated their community guidelines.

Right now the video as accessible, for now, on Twitter:

Wait I thought the President said he was being sarcastic. Are we supposed to do UV and disinfect our lungs or not?

Look Mr. Bros, you have a nasty attitude and I don't appreciate. You should learn some manners. Why do you think I think I'm better than people? I'm not going around being so mean and calling people names like you. You should stop it!

The President is important, and I don't like you saying bad things about him either. He is not stupid and he has common sense

Why are you downvoting me? What did I do wrong?

Why the non sequitur?

The President said we can use UV light inside us to stop Corona, but then he said he was being sarcastic. And now YouTube stop videos from a hospital? Which one should we do?

Why are you downvoting me? So much negativity is not healthy.

Not negativity. Just nonsensical non sequiturs from you. If you don't like being downvoted, keep your responses on topic.

Just saying.

Didn't the President bring up UV rays and Corona? Is that sequitur enough, or is it still non? This could help. Here is a link to what Mr. Trump said on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfLZOkn0chc

Since this story is about Youtube and Corona, I'm on topic right? So please don't downvote.

Can you answer my question now? Is he being true or was he being sarcastic like he later said. It's confusing and I want to know how to stay healthy. I'm older and Corona-19 is scary. Thanks!

ps I gave you the upvote becuase I beleive in the power of positive thinking!

Lip service from one of the Sickie Sisters. Ain't gonna happen.

Uh, did'y realize this site was going to become so political. I say anyone who has a opinion about the current virus and politics should do so on twitter or another platform. Let's try and keep at least one web site non bias and discuss what matters to all of us here and that is keep our livelihood and business's up and running. How about WE ALL post words of courage and photos that makes all of us feel good. If I want personal political opinions I will sign into twitter and read all the bull shit there.

I see your point, but it was Fstoppers that put up a story that is simply false. The story needs to be called out for it's lack of veracity.

Censorship, plain and simple.

I wonder how many of these people who are complaining even finished high school.
