Demi Lovato is finally at a place in her life where she is comfortable with the skin she is in, and Vanity Fair photographer Patrick Ecclesine was there to capture this very personal and very public experience.

She explains:

The reason why I decided to do this photo shoot was because when I think of confident, I think of many things, but one thing in particular is being comfortable in your own skin and I thought there was something incredible about the idea of no makeup whatsoever, no clothes, and no retouching. You know that says some... like, I would have never thought that I would have ever gotten to a place in my life where I could feel comfortable doing that. It's empowering and it shows other women that you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body issues and you can feel comfortable and comfortable in your skin.

She continues discussing why this was so important to her and the struggles she faced in her life that eventually brought her to this project and this revelation. Be sure to read the full accompanying article at Vanity Fair's website and also check out the incredible Patrick Eccelsine at his website and follow him on Twitter and Instagram. As a side note, I had the pleasure of photographing Demi live in concert last year. You're welcome to check out that shoot here.

all possible because of an expensive camera, lens and lighting equipment and mainly a good photographer :D

"some of the beauty captured in this case, was simply there."

And according to the narrative, I'd say that's exactly what they were going for. If you looks at the photographer's portfolio, he is extremely good, and is capable of over-the-top scenes and production value. The look we got is exactly the look he wanted.

Well played....

Talk about irony and coincidence! Isn't anyone here old enough to remember 1991?

Different Demi....lol

Yes, but nothing new.

Must've been very dark when they shot the interview, judging by her pupils.

Well, when you're facing the camera with your back, who needs make-up and photoshop?

agree. lousy video.

and this is photo related because... ?

I would assume it's photo related because it's about a photo shoot. But I could be wrong; maybe it's a chalk drawing and they're trying to fool us.

Hmmm it looks like a little bit retouching is there ... the Photographer has used low light scenes with high iso .. so the noise just make the retouching for him ... good played ... looks good

No retouch at all... I highly doubt that.
It's as legit as the #nofilter hashtag chicks put on instagram while they are clearly using a softening filter equal to setting the Clarity/Detail to -80 :D

I suppose it's interesting that a body might need makeup to cover up the tattoos. :) Seriously though, she's thin, has relatively good skin, and the photos are dark and very low key. The water acts like makeup for what little you see of her face.

It's pretty easy to be comfortable "in your own skin" with a body like that. This is nothing but Vanity Fair selling softcore porn. Give the same photog a plus sized woman with imperfect skin, and his work would never see the light of day.
