It's Ok to Take a Break During This Time

The coronavirus pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the photography industry and world as a whole, and we are still in the midst of it and will be dealing with its effects for years to come. If you are feeling stressed by all of it, it is important to remember that it is alright to take a break right now and to focus on taking care of yourself.

Coming to you from Daniel Norton Photographer, this great video discusses the importance of taking a break as a creative and how it can actually help your creative process. This took me a long time to learn. When I was in grad school, I used to think that I would be most productive if I simply worked nonstop 14 hours a day. Unsurprisingly, though, after 10 hours or so, my actual productivity dropped to about zero as my brain felt like mush inside my head. I began to learn to trust myself when I started to feel worn out and exhausted and instead started building in downtime as I needed it. Though I was spending less time explicitly engaged in the act of working, my overall productivity went way up, and I was much happier as well. Check out the video above for lots of great perspective from Norton.
