5 Holiday Gift Ideas For The Photographer In Your Life

5 Holiday Gift Ideas For The Photographer In Your Life

Tis the season to go splurge on fantastic photography odds and ends that you can stuff into colorfully wrapped boxes and give them out to all your favorite photographer friends! So get ready to whip out that credit card, even if you end up getting a few of the gifts for yourself!

Spider Pro Camera Holster ($135)

Camera straps just aren't an option for me, thanks to chronic back and neck pain due to some poor life choices when I was younger, the idea of dangling several pounds of camera and lens around my neck just isn't very viable. The Spider Pro solves this problem for me and is a great option for any photographer who wants to avoid the discomfort of hanging their camera from their neck or shoulder when they need both hands to make an adjustment while shooting. I was given one of these for Christmas years ago and continue to use it obsessively to this day.

Note: it doesn't look nearly as goofy if you mount it on a normal leather belt instead of using the obnoxiously huge one that comes with the holster.

Monitor Color Calibration ($79+)

Pretty much every photographer out there could benefit from using a calibrated monitor, however, buying a calibrator is often overlooked in favor of gear that is more fun. There are a wide variety of sensational calibration tools on the market that all can do a fantastic job at increasing the accuracy of any photographer's workflow.

A C-Stand ($130+)

Regular light stands are pretty cheap, c-stands are not. For this reason many photographers continue to use cheap stands and never give the more rugged c-stands a chance. Anyone who has ever used a c-stand, however, knows why they are worth paying a premium for. The strength and stability of a c-stand makes for an amazing light stand that gives you the peace of mind that your boom will support even a heavy strobe and softbox without breaking or falling on your model.

Sand Bags ($15+)

Lets face it, no one gets excited about buying sandbags, they are a tool related to photography that pretty much every photographer wants to forget about. However, it only takes one stand to fall on a model for the photographer to wish they had spent the money to buy a few of these great stocking stuffers!

Lens Cases ($10+)

Photographers love to make a game of collecting fancy gear bags but often don't consider buying individual protective cases for their lenses that they can use to make sure the lens stays safe no matter where it is. A few lens cases can go a long way to making a photographer's gear more secure so that they can transfer it from studio to the field without worrying about damage.

The title should just be "5 Holiday Gift Ideas For Yourself"

Hmm, I've been eyeballing the lens cases for a while, time to pick em up.

I expect at least a Pentax 645z with a trio of lenses. OR you know... a card will work to :-)

I must say that my family always gives me something non-photo related since they dont know anything about that stuff and will probably end up buying the wrong piece of kit.

I do love getting books, and they know it. I rarely go out and buy them myself but as a die hard reader i realy love those. New, old, used, stil in the plastic, digital or paper doenst matter.

Yeah I hope I get a bag of sand for Christmas.

literally goals.

I bought one this week. I would prefer not to have a stand with an octabox and 600EX come crashing to the ground again.

I prefer the Peak Design Capture Pro over the Spider, as the Arca-Swiss plates work on all my tripods.

LMAO!!!

Thank you for the article! It made me laugh......but I'm putting the belt on my Christmas list......!
