KC Nelson - RAW Project

This is part of an ongoing project called "RAW Project" I hand painted a canvas backdrop and use basic 2 light setup to shoo the models. The idea is to have the girls wear very simple clothing as well as little or no makeup.

was that a hair light and a light 45deg from camera? did you use a reflector camera right?

Hi Paul! Yes, most of the times I use my lights in a 45º, used a big umbrella with diffuser to create a soft light and had a V-flat on the right side to fill in the shadows.

Beautiful portrait.

Thank you Jason!

Can you please tell me more about the backdrop? I want to create something very similar. What paint did you use? Is it canvas? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Mark! It is canvas, I actually used home paint. Just made sure it was matte/flat. I used a gray as the base and changed the tones combining it with black or white paint as needed. Used a textured roll to paint the entire canvas then used different types of sponges to start creating texture and tones. It took a while but I loved the result. I've been using it for almost a year now and it still looks great.

That's awesome! Any tips on the canvas itself? Is it like a large painter's canvas that you can get from home depot?

Great shot!

Thank you Louis!

Stunning.

Thank you Paul!
