Glacial ice on the beach, Jokulsarlon, Iceland
The morning dawned cold and grey. I was hoping to catch the sunrise glinting off the glacial ice washed up on the beach, but when I got there I was disappointed. Still, I decided to make the most of it. To get a shot like this, you have to set up not on dry land but on a section of beach where the water rushes up past your ankles and then recedes again. The receding waters washing past the ice in the foreground, captured with a longish exposure, provide the feeling of motion in this shot. Cold, numb feet are a necessary consequence, unless you have proper waterproof calf-length boots, which I didn't. A shot like this is the reward.
