Siddhartha De's picture

High Desert

Taken at Nubra Valley, Ladakh, in the Indian Himalaya. The camels seen here are the double-humped Bactrian variants, descendants of those that plied the old Silk Road centuries ago between China and the Mediterranean. Sand dunes are a common feature in this valley, and camels pad along over the sand with snow-capped peaks behind them. The wind whips the sand and dust up around their feet and over the dunes creating halos and whirling eddies that are difficult to capture on camera but enormously rewarding when one gets it right.

Stunning image !!

Thank you, Alessandro.

Great image but lots of questions without answers. Maybe that's the secret to engaging photography but it also kinda p*sses me off! ;-)

So beautiful picture!

A very engaging and intriguing picture. Caught my attention right away because of its duality and then it took some time to understand what's going on.

i love the historic information as well

Siddhartha, very special image, viva small f-stops f/.14 and prime lenses or is that a zoom lens setting ? Looking at your gear bag I'm presuming prime but don't see a 200mm but did notice only one zoom 14-24mm.
