Guardians of the Galaxy

Its funny how things come to you. I got the idea for this shot while I was watching the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. Once the idea hit me, I wondered why I didn't think of this earlier. Funny how things work out I guess.

How was this shot? Well, that is the tricky part. This was shot in my own backyard in Chengannur, India. I found the base silhouette image online. I then scaled it up and got it printed. Then I had to cut out each characters individually and that was the hardest part. Especially when it came to Groot. Cutting out Groot was really really hard and took me around 2-3 hours. Once everything was cut, I pasted them onto a stronger piece of black paper to form the bottom part. I reinforced the characters by using small thin pieces of sticks(From a Coconut tree leaf). Then pasted the entire thing to a plastic pipe.

Now all that's left for me was to shoot it. I took the entire setup outside and placed it on top of the two light stands. In order to get the frame that I wanted, I had to point the camera in to the sky and not at the horizon. I had to do a bit of trial and error to get the focus just right in such a way that the foreground was in focus and the background created a beautiful bokeh, which I later brightened up further in Photoshop.

This is one of the more creative shots I have taken because it wasn't me going out there and just shooting what I saw. I had an idea in mind and had to do a lot of planning to implement it in the right way.
