I'm mainly known for my fashion portraits here in Australia but I had the opportunity recently to shoot some aerial photography.
We started off the day by shooting from the ground as Paul the pilot performed a variety of stunts.
We then moved onto some portrait shots of him in front of his plane.
Then, it all got very serious...
I was asked if I would like to go up in a photo plane and actually shoot Paul's plane in the air.
The problem here is, I have a fear of heights!
As if it wasn't bad enough that I was going up in this small little Cessna C180, I was also going to be safety harnessed and shooting outside an open door.
YES! I was at 6500ft
YES! I was shitting myself
YES! I FRICKEN LOVED IT!!!
This is one of those image that I look at and I can't believe I actually shot it.
We were in the air for about 45min and I shot about 600 images.
I learn't quite a lot from this shoot and if I get the opportunity again, quite frankly, I would probably do it again even with my fear of heights!
Here is a link to the BTS video on YouTube.
Great job ! Not too many troubles with the vibrations ?
Nah, just me shaking from fear! LOL
It didn't affect the shoot though. I don't know which lens you used, but the brands should think of a "fear mode" when building new anti vibration system, just in case ! :-)
That’s a beautiful shot. It’s very difficult to to shoot with a slow enough shutter speed to blur the propeller while keeping the aircraft in perfect focus.
Thanks Bob
