Baba Panchu Das

Meet Baba Panchu Das, a local Sadu living locally near the Ganges River. Every Morning Baba Panchu performs his morning mantras and meditates to welcome the new day. Baba Panchu is known as a holy man, who left behind all material attachments and lives in in an ashram near by. Everything he owns can be collected in 1 bag thats it.

A sadhu is usually referred to as baba by common people. The word baba also means father, grandfather, or uncle in many Indian languages. Today there are 4 to 5 million sadhus in India today and they are widely respected for their holiness and sometimes feared for their curses.

Baba Panchu was very patient with me and understood my english quite well which was very refreshing so he was able to take direction better than most making him a great subject to photograph during this mornings sunrise
